Camping Illinois

Your Illinois Camping Source

Family Camping

Camping is an activity that everyone in the family can enjoy. Given the proper preparation. Two things together, tents and sleeping bags, are the biggest things. Wherever you're going, you want to stay warm. A tent provides some warmth and keeps the bugs out. You have to decide if what you want is best for bad weather or ventilation.

In Illinois, you can go any direction out of town and find someplace to camp. The climate in Illinois varies from season to season and the tents and sleeping bags required for comfort do also.

Dome tents might be the best for your family expedition. They're easier to set up and usually you get better protection

Next is sleeping bags.

They should be tailored for the season you will be camping. Sleeping pads are often overlooked. They're more comfortable than sleeping on the ground.

Get the kids involved in setting up your camp. Show them how to build a campfire. Then involve them in the preparation of the food. Include such things as card games and "having a light to see by night." You should always have a first aid kit. Don't forget prescriptions and such things for anyone who has special needs. Bring along cooking equipment, such as camp stoves, and coolers. If you are car camping and you have got a cooler, the possibilities are endless. One thing you will want is a good quality pair of long tongs. Remember the hot dog and marshmallow forks.

Don't forget comfort items like chairs. It makes a big difference if you sit around the fire. Be sure to bring plates, cups and utensils, too. Most people use disposable plates and cups, but if you're going to be hiking somewhere, use permanent (dinnerware).

A couple of other things which are important, include researching your campsite beforehand, getting maps of the area, and always making sure family, friends and neighbors know where you are and how long you plan to be gone.

If you're going fishing or hunting, make sure you have the proper license and have studied the rules and limits Make sure you have jacks and a lug wrench in the car and that your spare tire has air in it. Don't forget coats and rain gear.

See you around the Campground!
